Culinary Expereince

Teachers found the visit invaluable for their students. “Children were excited and engaged for the whole visit. Each of the activities focused on new information while at the same time reinforcing things about plant growth and food systems that children were previously familiar with. Some students began to believe—for the first time—things that they’ve been taught in the classroom for years,” Rebecca Hodge, grade 3 teacher said. Stewartstown Community School has participated in the USDA Healthy Fruits and Vegetable Grant for a number of years, exposing children to numerous fresh fruits and vegetables, some exotic and others common-grown locally. “My students are pretty good about tasting new foods, but food that is grown locally is so much fresher and tastier,” Alyssa Wonkka, grade 4 teacher observed.
